This is the
original artwork for the opening 2-page splash from Silver Surfer #1,
vol.3, reintroducing him in his 2nd comic book series. This dynamic
opening splash spread kicks off a new era in the epic saga of the
Silver Surfer. Silver Surfer surfing through space, free for the first
time since being exiled to Earth behind Galactus' great barrier in his
very first story arc, "The Coming of Galactus" (Fantastic Four #'s
48-50, 1966).
Pencilled by
Marshall Rogers and inked by Josef Rubinstein, the art is from Silver
Surfer #1, dated July 1987. It was autographed "Marshall '92". This is
a true gem of a two page splash page that exemplifies Marshall Rogers'
style. I've included a scan of the page as it appears in the
book. You'll notice a change in the graphics, an example which shows
the editorial process.
Each piece of
original comic art is one of a kind, but #1 issue splash pages are
quite rare. This is a grade-A, top notch, museum-worthy piece of comic
book history. A page of this caliber might normally be sold through an
auction house or change hands in a private deal among high end
collectors, but you can buy it here!
